mellow sunday after a nice 5k walk on dirt tracks. Lovely. Pity about the Christian sound system! dave1258888439028.jpg
Seriously – come ask me to show you how well it runs and hassle free it is. Anytime at Empire. make a date and bring a laptop and I’ll make your day and answer your questions regarding Ubuntu Linux – The Free, Virus Free Operating System.

I just finished reading Cryptonomicon, by Neal Stephenson, for the second time. It’s perhaps the best story I’ve ever read. Funny, intelligent, mad, terribly sad from time to time. Think I’ll read it again in 2 years or so. I also have the Baroque Cycle which is a trilogy, and Anathem which is science fiction but from the human perspective . He is an incredible writer. Mostly historical fiction, which is what makes it so interesting – a lot of the context is factual, so I learn things about past situations. The manner in which events unfold has a strong human angle. It helps me relate to the realities of massive events – the Black Plague is an example that comes to mind.
Try it – you’ll like it.
No twits – not the ones from Denmark, the fancy schmancy fruit and nut variety from Cape Town that we’ve started baking every morning, bright and early.
The new flavours are:
- Apricot custard danish
- “Bear Claws”, filled with chocolate and apple
- Raisin and custard spirals (or “Snails” )
Please pop in and try some.
I mean they’re probably fattening and winter’s coming on soon so we all need to “lard up” a bit :-D
Oh, they’re all one price – R12 … if that seems a lot to you know that we make them all by hand with BUTTER, not margarine.
It takes time and practice to make them well and we’ve got a great consistent standard now.
I’m proud of them, can you tell?
Have a great day!
Lately I’v been taking a firm hand with my business, which can only be a good thing. It does however leave me disinclined to invent ideas for my site, which is sad. I will say a magical thing happened yesterday though. I went up Peck’s Valley in the evening, something I have not done in years! It’s beautiful up there, awesome light.
I reckon the bulk of Capetonians do not indulge in the local pleasures (eg mountain walks) nearly enough. Blame TV!
OK well – gotta go surf some more while it lasts :-D
Yes yes I know – don’t post for a year and the post twice in one day.
If you know me you’ll know I’m a tech nerd of note :-D
One of my latest fascinations is the web browser Flock.
It’s based on the mozilla engine (firefox) but is aimed squarely at “social networking”
(and all that that implies).
Have a look and do the tutorial, it’s a lot of fun, especially when you’re suppsoed to be working.
Oh, and try the fish hur hur.
Seriously though CAPONATA ON POLENTA is back on the menu (with real Parmesan cheese from Parma).
And its good
I’m out.

I’ve been a really busy boy which is reflecting positively at Empire. We have new breakfast and lunch menus and I’ll have drinks menus updated by next week too.
I know, I’m amazing. Thank you thank you.
PLUS!! Empire sells croissants and amazing biscuits at The Porter’s Estate Market every Saturday, weather permitting. It’s amazing there – all kinds of things to eat and drink and it’s great for kids too – under the trees and all that good stuff.
Lots of organic food stuffs too – and CHEESE and COLD MEATS YAY!
Go to http://www.pepmarket.co.za/ for a map, directions et al.
Later
